General:
Annual or biennial from a taproot; stems 0.5-1.0 cm tall, freely branched, hairy.
Leaves:
Stem leaves heart-shaped, coarsely toothed, 4-10 cm long, stalked, unstalked to short-stalked and clasping above, hairy.
Flowers:
In loose racemes, scentless; petals bluish-purple, about 2 cm long.
Fruits:
Silicles, oblong-oval, strongly compressed, 3.5-4.5 cm long, about 2/3 as wide; flower stalks slender, 7-12 mm long; beaks 6-8 mm long; seeds 3-5 per chamber, 7-9 mm wide, winged.

Habitat / Range

Mesic to dry roadsides and waste places in the lowland, steppe and montane zones; rare in S BC; introduced from Europe.
